Interdisciplinary education group in type 1 diabetes

چکیده

Background Diabetes mellitus type 1 (DM1) is an autoimmune disease that manifests in childhood or adolescence, promoted by progressive immune-mediated destruction of pancreatic beta cells, resulting in absolute insulin deficiency in the body, which makes patients dependent on insulin. The complexity of the treatment that includes: medication adjustments, nutrition education, blood glucose monitoring and changes in lifestyle habits, factors that lead to difficulty in adherence proposal. The diagnosis affects not only the child but the whole family structure, with impact on the day-to-day and emotional and affective sphere. Education is fundamental to motivate the patient to acquire knowledge and skills promoting self-management of DM1 care generating changes in behavior and better quality of life.
